This rescue is tremendous!!!! You can see that they put their whole hearts into everything they do there. It is my hope and prayer that many more people get involved with Yaqui and the wonderful work they do. There are so many animals out there that need this kind of help. DONATE, DONATE, DONATE!!!!
Yaqui Animal Rescue
Who are we?
We are a non-profit no-kill animal shelter located in Sulivan City on the edge of the Rio Grande Valley. Our goals and passion are rescuing and caring for those that otherwise could not care for themselves. Finding a loving home for all of our four-legged (sometimes two and three legged) friends is what keeps us moving forward.
History
Yaqui Animal Rescue became a registered non-profit organization in October 2013. The Yaqui ranch is on 80 acres of land located in Sullivan City, TX. We are an all-animal rescue with over 250 animals currently in our care. We have cats, dogs, rabbits, horses, pigs, chickens, ducks, and have even rescued opossums!
Mission & Vision
Mission: To rescue, rehabilitate, vet, and find forever homes for as many animals as possible in the Rio Grande Valley.
Vision: To make a difference in the life of homeless animals by following our mission, spreading spay/neuter awareness and continue to educate the community.
Founder: Sonia Venecia
As a young child, many summers and weekends were spent at what is now called the Yaqui Animal Rescue. The ranch was owned by my grandparents and eventually sold off as the years went by.
About twenty years ago, I started doing what I could for all the stray animals of the Rio Grande Valley, including feeding, vetting, and finding homes. Each year, the need seemed greater and greater. When the ranch became available for purchase in 2004, I purchased it back for the sole purpose of eventually becoming a rescue for all the unwanted animals of the area. I’ve been rescuing animals since then and with a little help, we can do great things for God’s innocent creatures!
The name “Yaqui” was chosen for the ancestors of my incredible grandmother, the Yaqui Indians.
